Building upon the foundation set up in sdf.sys_alpha the beta version of the system introduces greater modularity at various levels, significant enhancements to the gl ui, and many more things to load into spaces introducing new ways to make sound.
As with the /alpha subsection of this site, the current subsection presents (or will present -- this is a work in progress) a linear trajectory through different aspects of the system, starting with discussion of the gl ui re-design.
The reader is asked to note that the other subsections of this site, listed with glyphic icons below, refer to the beta version implementations of those aspects.
A public version of sdf.sys_beta will be available here soon as zip archived folder containing various files needed to run the system. It has been built in Max 5 on OSX 10.6.8 — it will run in the Max 5.1.9 runtime which you can get here. The run time is free (as in beer), and there are versions for both Mac OSX and Windows — sdf.sys has only been tested under OSX and so issues, particularly with the OpenGL rendering, are likely under Windows.
Sharing the system in this way is sideline to the music composition research project through which this system has been made (see http://sdfphd.net). It has been created primarily for personal use. You are welcome to have a look, to use it as is, to hack away at it, but please respect the (cc)by licence it is released with.
Questions and comments are welcome, but no promise to support is made. Again, and in other words, this system is more like a prototype or proof of concepts than a finished product, it is as much a means to an end as it is and end in of itself, and it is discussed more fully in my (to be completed) phd thesis.
In this section about the _beta (current version) implementations, the next page is about the redesigned gl ui:
